|
|
Undergraduate
Classes
|
|
Library Orientation: UNIV
1301
A general overview of what types of materials are in the library and
available through the databases, as well as a basic orientation to
library services.
|
|
Library Orientation: English
1302
An introduction to finding library materials. Students learn how
to search the library catalog, find print journals, and use one or two
general databases to find articles. Students are introduced to
the main types of articles they may find in the databases (scholarly
vs. popular), and learn to identify how different types of information
can be used in their research and writing. Examples and sources
used in the classes are based on the students' research
assignments.
|
|
Internet/ Web
Evaluation
Most students use the free internet as their first stop in the research
process. This course helps students learn how to search the web
more effectively and how to critically evaluate the sources they find
online. It also helps students decide when the web might provide
the best sources for information and when it would be better to use a
database, print journal, or book.
|
|
Course-Specific
Classes
Based on the content and the types of materials students are expected
to use in a specific course. These courses can be designed for any
level of student.
|
|
Finding Articles/ Finding
Books
These are short classes that you can schedule any time during
the semester as needed. The course consists of catalog or
database demonstrations that focus on the research goals of your
class.
|
|
Library Resources for Majors
If your department has a class that all new majors are
required to take, consider scheduling an instruction class that
introduces students to the classic reference and research sources in
your field. This class includes subject-specific database
instruction and an overview of web-based materials in the field of
study.
|
|
Library Tours
We are always happy to schedule a library tour for your class, either
as part of one of the sessions above or separately.
|
|
Distance Education

type of instruction will depend on the needs of the class and the
technology that is being used.
