Dec. 3 festival to focus on the arts
Art, music, culture and the environment will be the focus of a festival hosted by EROS, a student organization at The University of Texas-Pan American, Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1-10 p.m. at the Quad.

Bring a smile to a child’s face; donate a gift now until Dec. 5
The Office of Student Life and Transition Services at The University of Texas-Pan American is offering the UTPA community a chance to bring a smile to a child this holiday season through the 14th annual Adopt-An-Angel Program. Now through Dec. 5 the program will be accepting gift donations.

UTPA social work students help to host first fundraiser gala Dec. 4
The University of Texas-Pan American Graduate Association of Student Social Workers (GASSW) has joined Global Humanitarian Outreach, Inc. (GHO) to host the first GHO “Power Up Students!” Fundraiser Gala.

Child Development Center lesson in sharing collects half a ton of canned goods
The youngest Broncs at The University of Texas-Pan American, the children of the Child Development Center, collected half a ton of nonperishable food items to donate to the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley as part of their daily lesson at the facility – to always share and be nice to one another.

UTPA and local educational institutions to begin groundwork for implementation of Texas College Readiness Standards
More than 100 administrators and educators from The University of Texas-Pan American, local school districts, Region I Education Service Center, and other higher education institutions in the region met recently to start the groundwork for the implementation of the Texas College Readiness Standards (CRS) to ensure area students are college ready when they graduate high school.

Experts focus on technology entrepreneurship during bootcamp at UTPA Nov. 22
Valley residents had the opportunity to hear from and network with a roster of experts on how to succeed as technology-based entrepreneurs during a daylong conference held at The University of Texas-Pan American Nov. 22.

Nursing graduates pass licensing exam in record numbers
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at The University of Texas-Pan American received a 96.72 percent pass rate on the exam they are required to pass to become registered nurses.

Donate a toy; get your parking ticket removed through Dec. 5
Now through Dec. 5 The University of Texas-Pan American Police Department will be trading parking tickets for new and unwrapped toys of at least a $10 value.

UT System seeking applicants for Student Regent position
The University of Texas System is currently seeking applicants for the student regent position on the UT System Board of Regents. The term for the position runs from June 1, 2009 to May 31, 2010.

Cárdenas named Golden Eagle Award Recipient for 2009
The McAllen Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is proud to announce that Dr. Blandina Cárdenas, president of The University of Texas-Pan American has been chosen as the Golden Eagle Award Recipient for 2009.
